Loving-kindness (Metta)
Loving-kindness, also known as "metta", is a practice that involves cultivating unconditional love and kindness towards oneself and others.
Cultivating Kindness: Loving-kindness is about intentionally developing and nurturing feelings of kindness and benevolence.
Unconditional Love: It extends beyond those we like or those who are close to us, encompassing everyone, including those we find difficult or even those we don't know.
Mental Focus: The practice involves mentally repeating phrases of loving-kindness, such as "May you be happy," "May you be healthy," or "May you be free from suffering".
Gradual Expansion: The practice often starts with oneself, then extends to loved ones, neutral individuals, difficult people, and ultimately all beings.
